Teaching and assessment for International Accounting MSc

This module is suitable for those who have studied accounting before and wish to further their understanding of contemporary issues in accounting in an international setting. 

This module will give you the independent research and evaluation skills necessary to analyse a complex issue or problem within the areas of accounting, finance or management and to define conduct and report on a substantial piece of empirical research in the area.

This module is designed to help you learn about modern research techniques and the important ideas and concepts that these build on.

The material is designed to help you when you work on your own research, whether this is a summer dissertation or a full PhD thesis.

This module offers a beginner-friendly approach to quantitative methods, teaching you the fundamental concepts and skills needed for statistical estimation and interpretation.

It focuses on using statistics in business or finance research, cultivating statistical thinking, conducting relevant tests, and introducing the SPSS software.

Students will develop their academic English while working with material from their core business modules.

This is an English support module for international business students.

You will study important themes in corporate governance, such as the nature and importance of corporate governance in both a national and international context.

As well as recent changes in governance applying to major UK and international companies, and the need for ethical business behaviour.

You will learn how to interpret financial statements helping you to decide as to whether to buy, hold, or sell a particular firm’s stock. You will also learn how to set up an in-depth analysis of the firms strategic capabilities, financial and operating performance.

Major trends in strategic management and management accounting are explained and evaluated in order to better understand management challenges.

A case study in the automotive industry will be used to exemplify how businesses adapt to their external environment by integrating the ‘three meshed gears’ of marketing, engineering, and finance.

This module provides an understanding of theories and concepts and essential skills for estimating and interpreting economic models. You will learn to apply techniques to finance problems by translating theoretical models, analysing data, and interpreting results. 

You will learn mainstream and critical accounting/management theories, traditional and contemporary organisational practices and discuss issues involved in social and environmental reporting and accountability. You will explore the social responsibility of organisations to wider society, including government, individuals, and groups.

The module aims to teach students about the context surrounding financial regulations, regulatory development and investment practices in the United Kingdom and worldwide.

The module will also give students a critical awareness of the ethical issues of financial and banking practice.
