About

Finlay Morrison

Hello! I'm Finley (he/they).

During my time at DJCAD I have had the privilege to work as a character designer and animator on a rich variety of productions alongside some incredible individuals, which has allowed me to greatly improve my skills as a designer and my knowledge of the animation pipeline. I have assisted on several films, including 'Hero's Spirit', 'Tailslide', 'TV Dinner', last year's 'Starcrossing', and my main project 'Astray'. Each project provided me with the opportunity to learn new techniques and different programs, expanding my skillset. I even managed to dip my toe a little into composition, which I had never considered working in previously.

My biggest passion is creating creature designs, fit for fantastical worlds where anything is possible. Glowing phantasmal deer, gloopy aquatic creatures, canine guardians- I truly enjoy bringing these otherwise impossible animals to life both through character design as well as animation. A creature, not matter how strange, should look natural to their habitat and fit into the world that is being created, and have natural ways of interacting with that world as well. What I enjoy creating helps expand upon an environment, developing a rich ecosystem for an already intriguing world. Fantasy is where I feel I belong!

Feel free to check out my work if silly little creatures and 2D animation is your thing!
