About

Hannah Drummond

Throughout my time at university, I have had the opportunity to work in different facets of animation. This Includes storyboarding, character design, animating and leading background art on multiple films. I’m primarily interested in visual development and its explorational nature, in particular bringing unusual and relevant references. I find myself drawn to more complex or mature themes in my storytelling, provoking me to seek nonconventional ways to represent the subject matter.

I had the opportunity to direct the degree film ‘Baobhan Sith’. Based upon Scottish folklore, the film explores themes of sexuality and horror through a medieval Scottish lens. I wanted to explore creating an atmosphere that evokes fear in the viewer. I sought to do this without using a conventional linear narrative, instead utilising the amorphous nature of animation to create my own reality. The choice to focus on ancient Scotland was not only due to my personal interest in history, but also my connection to the setting. I wanted to depict the wild and awe-inspiring landscapes I grew up in. Working towards this has shown me the potential animation has as a film medium to portray emotion.

Throughout the degree I have had the pleasure to work collaboratively not just on my own film but others as well. Collaborating together with peers has not only pipeline but also my own personal and artistic growth

In the future I hope to create work that challenges the perception of the medium as a whole.
