Is it shite being Scottish? Growing up in the East End of Glasgow, I wholeheartedly embrace the essence of the working-class city, or to put it in Scottish terms, embracing the ‘shiteness’.

At 8 years old, my family moved to Dalian, China, and though I’ve always valued the experience, it's only in the past few years that I’ve truly recognised the impact it has had on my outlook on life. Whilst I attended an American school, I also had the unique opportunity to immerse myself in Chinese culture first-hand. Consequently, I abandoned my Scottish identity in favour of what I perceived as a more culturally appealing identity. However, after reflecting on my experiences, I have formed a newfound connection to my hometown, and a profound appreciation for the comforts of home, like the simplicity of a roll and square sausage.

My practice is driven by a desire to inspire others to view Glasgow with the same affection and admiration that fuels my own creativity. Through my work, I aim to capture the communal spirit that is so integral to Glasgow's working-class culture and celebrate the quirks and unique pride that comes with being Glaswegian and Scottish.
