Employee benefits
People are at the heart of the University of Dundee, that's why we offer a first class package of benefits.

Pay
Our competitive pay structure is defined through the national pay spine and provides for annual increments within the grades. Pay scales for academic and support staff are graded from 1 to 10. Pay awards to recognise cost of living increases are negotiated nationally through the Universities & Colleges Employers’ Association and recognised trade unions.

Annual leave
We provide a generous annual leave allowance which includes:
Annual leave allowance for all staff is 42 days annually (pro rata). This will allow for 7/8 designated days over the existing winter break, and 3 further designated days over Easter and May bank holiday.
The designated days will be automatically deducted from your annual leave entitlement. Colleagues will therefore have 31/32 days of flexible leave (pro rata) remaining each year.
Work/life balance policies
There is a range of policies designed to support staff to balance work and home life and deal with personal responsibilities, as well as some of life's major events. These include:
- Family Leave - Children and Dependants
- Compassionate Leave - Bereavement
- Fertility Treatment Leave
- Shared Parental Leave
- Carer's Leave
- Flexible Working

Professional and personal development
As a member of staff, you will have access to a whole range of professional and personal development opportunities. Our Talent and Development team offer a comprehensive workshop programme delivered by both internal and external experts. Mentoring and leadership development schemes are also available. Every staff member should discuss with their line manager or supervisor(s) their learning and support needs.
Pensions
The University of Dundee has three pensions schemes which you may join, determined by your job category:
Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS)
- for academic and academic-related staff
NHS Superannuation Scheme
- for academic staff previously in the NHS Scheme
Noting you can only re-join/remain in the NHS Superannuation Scheme (instead of joining USS) if you satisfy certain criteria – please contact pensionsoffice@dundee.ac.auk for more information.
Royal London Defined Contribution (DC) Pension Scheme
- for clerical, technical, and manual staff
The University also offers a salary sacrifice scheme, Pensions Plus, for pension contributions made into the Universities Superannuation Scheme or the University of Dundee Superannuation Scheme.
Additional benefits
All staff can take advantage of a range of other benefits.
For example, they can join our Institute of Sport & Exercise and use our extensive library facilities.
They can also participate in cycle to work schemes and access the government’s tax-free childcare.
Perhaps visit our Botanic Gardens near Dundee airport. You can also visit the Ninewells Community Garden, which lies in the beautiful arboretum of Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. Both are free to visit, open 7 days a week – just remember your staff card for entry into the Botanic Gardens.
