About the data

Information security and governance is what we do; securely find data, securely access data, and securely analyse data. Data linkage unlocks the power of existing data (medical health records and public records) by reusing it for a new purpose – research. This linkage creates a more complete picture of an individual or event.

We can provide expertise and consultancy in each stage of your project life cycle, offering end-to-end support. From project initiation discussions on available datasets, to collaboration in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) methodologies.

Data linkage

As a regional TRE, we host routinely collected health data. We can provide data from NHS Tayside, NHS Fife and NHS Forth Valley, representing approximately 20% of the Scottish population. We host approximately 170 datasets of multimodal data types. You can find out more on the Health Data Research Innovation Gateway website. We can host regional and national health and public records data (e.g. death certificate data). Alternatively, you can ‘Bring Your Own’ data if you have sensitive data such as medical device manufacturing data, consented participant data or health data originating outside of Scotland. We uphold the highest international standard to manage information security.

Diagram showing how data flows within the TRE

This diagram represents the possible data linkage processes available within our TRE. You define your cohort, and we can link electronic health records, demographic data, new data, and public records. These datasets can be linked together and provisioned within the TRE as a project data extraction.

Pain data hub

We are a datahub, or 'search engine' for UK wide pain datasets. Our TRE provides a common entry point for the Advanced Pain Discovery Platform (ADPD), for which Alleviate is the hub for data collected.
