Regular telephone and email contact between course team members and trainees is a feature of this course to support your daily clinical activities.

Assessment

You'll be assessed by:

a service related project or a systematic review of published evidence relating to a primary care mental health issue
an essay on methods in psychology research
three case reports of patients you have treated
an observed structured clinical examination (OSCE)
three placement-based assessments of your clinical competence.

This module explores some of the most common and more complex mental health problems. It covers how those problems have evolved, methods of diagnosis, and current evidence-based treatment using a cognitive behavioural therapy approach.

Common Mental Disorders in Primary Care full module details

You will gain an understanding of the bio-psychosocial factors implicated in common mental health disorders through studying the diagnostic classification systems and theory of case formulation in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. This enables the selection of assessment strategies appropriate to the clinical setting and needs of people using services.
